Preparatory activities:

The teachers booked the visit to the center and a bus.

Activity:

The pupils visited the science center in Vantaa, The main exhibition area in Cylinder Hall was comprised of different theme exhibitions. In addition to the theme exhibitions, the main exhibition featured some of Heureka's most popular exhibits, including the Foucault Pendulum and Tightrope bicycle.

Animal Inside Out exhibition uncovered the inner structures of different animals in intricate detail, from frogs, domestic animals and livestock to adult gorillas, giraffes and elephants.

The Intelligent City exhibition presented how information and communications technology is utilised in improving the city's functions and its traffic, safety, energy efficiency and eco-friendliness.

There they saw also a planetarium film about Pandas ( classes 1-3 ) and Space (classes 4-6).

Subsequent activities:

At school the pupils discussed, drew and wrote about the things they saw and experienced.

Results:

The pupils were interested and keen on experimenting scientific things.

Comments:

The whole trip was a success, everybody found something interesting, The center was a safe place for the children to explore on their own.

Preparatory activities:

The “school office” of Pirkkala school education department organized the activity. The teacher organized the transport (by bike) to the museum.

Activity:

The pupils were shown old ways of living in Pirkkala starting from the 14^th century. They could try some old ways of farming and the work of an blacksmith and they were pupils in an old school of the late the 19^th century.

Subsequent activities:

Results:

The visit to the museum showed the pupils how the people lived and worked a long ago. They were active, not just seeing and reading about things. The activities were well organized.

Comments:

The pupils got a very good exposure on historical things coming real in an interesting way.

Preparatory activities:

Hiring the band, bus transportation arrangements

Activity:

The soldier band performed to the pupils playing classical and modern music and introducing their instruments: guitars (base, electrical, etc.), flute, trumpet, saxophone, piccolo and drums. The vocalist was the “teacher” and told about the music and the instruments very well and got the pupils full attention.

Subsequent activities:

Results:

The interest on music and instruments grew and they were discussed later during the music lessons.

Comments:

To see young men performing in a humorous and funny way but showing much talent was the best.

Preparatory activities:

One teacher took part in a Nordic E-Stories Seminar arranged by the Finnish Children Literature Institute on the 8^th November 2016.

Activity:

The pupils went to see an exhibition of e-literature made by children in the main library in Tampere.

Subsequent activities:

At school they draw their own pictures or took pictures of their own with iPads and wrote then stories to their pictures using iPads.

Cooperation with the library of Pirkkala and the University of Tampere  (the teacher took part in a research on the cooperation between schools and the library).

Results:

The pupils worked enthusiastic with their themes and the final products were nice.

The final products of this activity were shown to other pupils of the school and some of them will be shown in the blog of the Erasmus+-project. In addition to these some of the works will be published also in the final report of the “Cooperation between schools and library” – project.

Comments:

The joy of making e-stories of their own in groups was remarkable. Also the new form of cooperation with the library of Pirkkala was a very positive experience.

The pupils worked in groups and chose themselves what they are going to present. They collected materials from the school garden and the forest nearby. Here you can see the pictures taken from the work and the final art.

Colours of nature, Finland Documentation                                Task: Subject: Pupils age: Colours of nature Crafts, art 9-10 Size of the class: Number of lessons: Connection to other subjects 16 3 Biology, physics, chemistry Preparation: Collecting bio waste and spices, buying the photo copying paper Lesson(s): First we watered the copying paper, next we put the bio waste and other materials on the paper and then put it under pressure. We used books to do that. The next day we took the books away and took the materials away from the photo copying paper using water. Then we let the papers dry. That happened quite quickly. Afterwards we made cards out of the pictures. Results: Surprising figures and ornaments on the photo copying paper. Comments: Easy but smelly the pupils commented.
